Setting Goals

The following are suggestions adapted from the 2002-2003 Albert Schweitzer Elementary School Student Planner.

The way to succeed is by setting goals and taking steps to accomplish them. This takes planning, which means taking control of what you do, how you do it, and when you do it.

Set short-term goals:

bullet

Earn a "B" or better on the next test.

bullet

Meet and get to know one new person this week.

Set long-term goals:

bullet

Help with housework on the weekends.

bullet

Play a sport on summer league team.

Make goals specific:

bullet

 Poor: You will read more.

bullet

Better: You will read one book each week.

Make goals realistic:

bullet

Poor: You will read five books each week.

bullet

Better: You will read one book each week.

Set a time line:

bullet

When do you want to reach your goal?

bullet

What do you need to do to reach your goal and keep you on track?
