SENIOR CITIZENS PROPERTY TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

In 1977, the Neshaminy Board of School Directors adopted a Senior Citizens Property Tax Assistance Program for the purpose of providing property tax relief to senior citizens of low income.

This program is entering its twenty-seventh year.  You may qualify if your household income is less than $15,000.  Rebates range from 10% to 100% of the school tax bill, up to a maximum of $500.

If you have not taken advantage of this program in prior years and believe you may be eligible, we strongly encourage you to submit a request form.  In doing so, you will be joining over 225 senior citizens who participate each year and have received almost 1.4 million dollars in rebates since 1977.  We hope that the amount for which you qualify helps you to partially overcome today’s high cost of living for those on fixed incomes.

For those individuals who have applied in the past, the instructions and request form will be mailed to you in January 2005.  Persons who submit applications should note the following details:

  1. Assistance is applicable to the 2004 school real estate taxes only.
  2. Applications for assistance are applicable only to the owners of real estate on which the owner resides and which assistance is requested.
  3. At least one of the owners requesting the assistance must have obtained the age of 65 on or before December 31, 2004.
  4. A widow or widower, who previously received the rebate based on the spouse’s age, may still qualify if they are 50 years of age or older.  Review the instructions to determine if you qualify.
  5. Filing dates for assistance shall be no earlier than January 1, 2005 and no later than June 15, 2005 for 2004 school real estate taxes.
  6. The amount of the refund shall be based on the total household’s gross income from all sources for the calendar year 2004 and the school tax paid on the property.
  7. Applications will not be processed if they are not accompanied by the proper documents.
