Albert Schweitzer Sculpture
The bust of Albert Schweitzer that is displayed in our Library was created in 1965 by Mrs. E.P. (Geanie) Neveu. Although she received no formal training in sculpturing, Mrs. Neveu started at home, went to a few classes, and eventually became a teacher. Our bust is one she did for a demonstration in one of her classes. The Schweitzer bust was on display in Texas before it was sent to our school. Mrs. Neveu was quoted in the Houston Chronicle on Friday, October 7, 1966 as follows, "I chose Albert Schweitzer because I love his face. He was a delight to work on with his large nose, moustache and bags under his eyes. His face showed so much character." Along with the sculpture is a display with the article about Mrs. Neveu, her picture, and samples of correspondence between our school and Mrs. Neveu.
